Do prairie dogs have spoken language?

This guy has been studying them for 20 years and he thinks so.

Aphex is the virgin mother

You may have heard about the virgin Mary grilled cheese sandwich, but did you hear about the Aphex twin potato chip?

2.5 billion pixels

This is an article about some people in the Netherlands who made the first gigapixel panoramic photograph. you can zoom way in on the website, its quite astounding.

The finished image is 2.5 billion pixels in size - making it about 500 times the resolution of images produced by good consumer digital cameras.

The huge image of Delft was created by stitching together 600 single snaps of the Dutch city taken at a fixed spot.

If printed out in standard 300 dots per inch resolution, the picture would be 2.5m high and 6m long.

i'd love to do one a macro version of one of these of something like a rotting pig carcass.

I meant to blog on what a good time I had at the celebration of Jodi and Andrew's self subjugation. We should all go get drunk and dance more often. I actually pulled some muscle in my left butt cheek, and that's what i call an achievement. Fortunately my ass is all healed up healthy again today... Can't stand a wounded ass.

Off the H, time for some god injections

Nick Cave: Christian

Cave told me that he does not go to church, and that he is not affiliated with any particular branch of Christianity, but there is no question that his God is a Christian God. When I asked Cave if he had any interest in other religions, or in a broader, non-religious spirituality, he replied, "Oh, a passing, skeptical kind of interest. I'm a hammer-and-nails kind of guy."

hooray, another win for creationism

bopnews.com has a story about how a school district on Pennsylvania will no longer be teaching evolution, at all.

see, this kind of news makes me happy about my recent decision to switch from being a flaming liberal to a right wing evangelical nut job. i still got a ways to go on hating gays still though...

tina has her work cut out for her

american madrasas are too strong right now.

Only about a third of Americans believe that Charles Darwin's theory of evolution is a scientific theory that has been well supported by the evidence, while just as many say that it is just one of many theories and has not been supported by the evidence. The rest say they don't know enough to say. Forty-five percent of Americans also believe that God created human beings pretty much in their present form about 10,000 years ago. A third of Americans are biblical literalists who believe that the Bible is the actual word of God and is to be taken literally, word for word.

Best Gay Love Song?

Franz Ferdinand have a song that is just incredibly gay.

you're the boy with all the leather hips,
sticky hair, sticky hips, stubble on my sticky lips

This is what I am, I am a man
so come and dance with me Michael

here is their back story. so... what do you think of the back story? did the singer come out in a moment of idealism, then freak out under the bright media lights and come up with this fake story? or is he telling the truth that its a couple pals of his?

either way, my respect for them has gone up.

I've always wanted to see John Lennon do a head spin.

Awsome. Someone took some video of the beatles, and jay-z and mixed it together to make for a video for the grey album. (an illegal mashup of jay-z's black album and the beatles white album which is pure genious, in case you've been living under a rock)

UPDATE: looks like they already lost their host...

UPDATE 2: There are now some Grey Video Mirrors.

ahh... "fiscal conservatives"

Bush is planning on keeping his newest tax cuts for the rich "revenue neutral" by getting rid of the tax writeoff for employer-provided health insurance. This is so ultra, super, mega intelligent that its just miles past our ability to understand its genius, and it just seems really really dumb. Aparently to even mention that class exists is a political crime (how you dare, kerry/edwards!), but actively declaring war on the working class? ...no problem.

An answer to treating drug resistant bacteria?

Antibiotics get new lease of life

lets hope this pans out into a workable treatment.

It must have been hard to be rich and famous in the 80's

i feel their pain...

Do you ever get that feeling
When the guilt begins to hurt?
Seeing all the children
Wallowing in dirt
Crying out with hunger
Crying out in pain
At least the dirt will wash off
When it starts to rain

Depeche Mode - Shame

How I have missed the cold war...

Looks like the cold war is back.

President Vladimir Putin said Wednesday that Russia is developing a new form of nuclear missile unlike those held by other countries, news agencies reported.

Earlier this year, a senior Defense Ministry official was quoted as telling news agencies that Russia had developed a weapon that could make the United States' proposed missile-defense system useless. Details were not given, but military analysts said the claimed new weapon could be a hypersonic cruise missile or maneuverable ballistic missile warheads.

So... this "missile shield" bush is so keen to deploy has never proven that its effective even against missile technology we know about now, and the Russians reportedly already have new evasion techniques. Let me tell you, I'm feeling all warm and comfortable now!

Too bad no one mentioned that building a "missile shield" would mostly just be effective at resparking an arms race. Oh wait, they did.

The 10 Regions of US Politics

This is a really fascinating map of the regional political/social makeup of the US. It shows how regional culture flows across statelines.

Corn Chips: 110 mg sodium per 1 oz serving.

Corn Flakes: 200 mg sodium per 1 oz serving.

Voting for bush makes you fat.

here ya go: 100% pure, infallable science.

yay blogger.

I've decided that i want to use this space primarily as a blog. My Vitriolix project is mostly sidelined as my musical attention is 100% devoted to Blue Vitriol again. My old songs page for Vitriolix is available here.
